2008 Athlete's Schedule
The Wyoming Celtic Festival wouldn't be possible without the help of our legions of volunteers. Donate your time and enjoy a day in the park surrounded by Celtic atmosphere. We are always looking for interested people to run events, take tickets, coordinate activities, and keep the show going. Volunteers receive a t-shirt and a day of fun in the sun. We also welcome monetary and in-kind donations from interested sponsors. Contact the Director for more information.
The Heavy Events
Caber Toss:

The caber is a
90 to 120 pound log 16' to 20' in length that is tossed
end-over-end. The caber must turn so that the large end
hits the ground and the narrow end falls away from the athlete.
A perfect throw will land at the 12 o'clock position. The
winner will have the throw closest to 12:00.
Sheaf Toss:
The sheaf toss involves hurling a bag of hay over a crossbar with a three-tined pitchfork. The winner is the athlete who tosses the sheaf the highest.
Weight
for Distance:
The athlete spins the weight around by the handle and releases the weight. The winner is the athlete who throws the weight the farthest.
Hammer Throw:
A metal ball is
attached to a wooden handle to create a hammer.
The athlete spins the hammer in a circular motion building up
momentum then releases it. The winner is the athlete who throws
the hammer the farthest.
Stone Throw:
A rounded stone, called a clachneart, is thrown for distance, much like a shot put.
Weight for
Height:
The athlete
stands beneath a crossbar, grasps the weight with one hand, and
swings the weight back and forth between his legs, then releases
the weight so that it will pass over the crossbar.
The winner is the athlete who tosses the weight the highest.
Traditional Events
The Haggis Toss:
Based on an ancient tradition of a woman tossing lunch (a haggis) across a stream to her husband. The haggis is tossed for distance and accuracy from atop a barrel or platform. The winner throws the haggis the furthest! (Open to Everyone. Sign up at Hospitality Booth)
Wellie Toss:
The Wellie Toss, traditionally for the women, involves throwing a pair of rubber (Wellington) wading boots over your shoulder to see who can toss them the furthest!
